How to play Clockwork Hen, a snake game
Clockwork Hen is a snake game with a farmyard twist. Walk the clockwork hen round the yard and pick up eggs. Each egg hatches into a chick that follows her, so her line grows longer and longer.
Step by step
- Swipe, or press the arrows under the yard, to turn the hen. On a keyboard, use the arrow keys or W, A, S and D.
- She keeps walking the way she faces. Walk her over an egg to pick it up.
- Ten steps later the egg hatches into a chick that follows her everywhere.
- Walking into the fence, a hay bale or one of her own chicks ends the yard.
- Hatch as many chicks as the yard asks for, and you win it.
Tips
- Turn early. The longer the line, the more room you need to turn.
- Walk along the edges, and leave the middle open for when the line is long.
- She cannot turn straight back into her own line, so plan your turns one step ahead.
- Try a calm yard first. Calm yards have no hay bales.

About this game
A wind-up brass hen walks the farmyard picking up eggs. Every egg follows right behind her and hatches ten steps later into a real chick - white, yellow, brown or black - that joins the line. Walk into the fence, a hay bale or your own brood and the yard is over. Calm, brisk and swift yards, a collection of the hen's fittings in four metals, and a daily yard that is the same eggs for everyone.
